Attitude is molded in two ways:
• A child’s natural temperament i.e. due to genetics – some children are just lucky to be born with a great outlook.
• Other children need to learn how to have a good attitude. Generally, it is like ‘happiness’, a learned skill.

How parents and guardians can develop a positive attitude in a child:

a) Model and encourage appropriate behaviour – children
....copy what they see.
b) Reinforce good behavior:
....i. Be consistent with this encouragement.
c) Teach perseverance and that experiences should be ‘journey-based’ not ‘outcome-based’.
d) Promote self esteem:
....i. Provide opportunities for children to increase confidence and resilience
....- through the careful selection of ‘one-on-one’ play dates,
....- progression to 3 or more/ small group play.
e) Encourage their involvement in something they find truly interesting:
....i. This develops the child’s knowledge in a passionate area.
....ii. This participation will increase rapport with others whilst increasing the child’s
....friendship group.
....iii. This will result in an increase in self esteem and confidence…therefore happiness.
....iv. Positive experiences will help develop trust in life situations.
