About the Author - Justine Chard
'Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all' Dale Carnegie.
Justine Chard is a teacher who grew up in Queensland on the north-east coast of Australia. As a child, Justine lived in the city but spent her holidays helping her aunt and uncle muster sheep and cattle on the family properties near Meandarra in outback Queensland. Some of her best memories as a young girl are of sharing her Spam sandwiches with the working dogs beside the dam.
Jake, her first Border Collie (a blue and white), was gifted to her as a tiny puppy the year after she graduated high school at
St Hilda’s on The Gold Coast. Justine completed her Bachelor of Applied Science degree at the University of Queensland and began teaching in a small coastal town where she bought Max, her second Border Collie (a red and white).
Justine, always a country girl at heart, sadly moved away from the coastal country town of Mackay, back to the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast where she was raised. It was there that she finally gave in to her desires to be involved in international education. Justine packed up Jake and Max and they all headed to North America.
The trio explored the United States and Canada. Regular ‘care packages’ of Shmacko dog treats and travelling became a way of life for many years. Eventually nature took its course and Jake and Max passed away within a few months of each other. Their next destination was to be ‘the big kennel in the sky’.
Thus the children’s book series, The Adventures of Jake and Max ‘Mishky Moo’ was born. Justine has been writing ever since, continuing the legacy that was Jake and Max.
