A is for Australia, A is for Attitude
Introducing ‘A’

'Work is either fun or drudgery. It depends on your attitude. I like fun.'
Colleen C. Barrett.

A is for Australia - A is for Attitude
Introducing Jake and Max ‘Mishky Moo’, the travelling Aussie Border Collie dogs.  On their first exciting adventure, these two loveable dogs head off to the Australian Outback.

Jake and Max live in the Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Montville. Days are spent frolicking in their luscious green garden and nights curled up on the verandah listening to crickets and owls hooting. When Catherine, their human mum gets a call from Uncle Ian and Auntie Shan, Jake and Max head to the Queensland country to help muster the sheep for shearing.

Things are very different in the Outback; it is hot and dry with lots of flies. It is Max’s first time in the country and he must quickly learn how to be a sheepdog just like his big brother Jake. Unfortunately, Max finds out that learning new skills can be difficult and sometimes animals aren’t all that kind. Gaining respect from the other animals, especially the country work dogs, needs to be worked for, and giving up is NOT an option. Having a good attitude is the only way to get from one difficulty to another and come out on the other side eating Shmackos.

Life Lesson Number 1 – a good attitude is essential in overcoming the many obstacles that may be faced when life throws you a curve ball.

B is for Bur Mil Park, USA B is for Bravery
Introducing ‘B’

'Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave.'
Mary Tyler Moore.

B is for Bur-Mil Park, North Carolina, USA - B is for Bravery

Once again Jake and Max, the travelling Border Collie dogs, head off on another exciting adventure.

This time Catherine, Jake and Max pack their bags and move to Bur-Mil Park in North Carolina, United States. At first Jake and Max are thrilled to be heading off overseas to explore the American countryside, but quickly reality sets in. When movers come to pack all of their belongings, Jake and Max wonder when they will see their Australian home again. The dogs are faced with many worries, including: how will they survive without their friends; will they miss the home that they grew up in; and most importantly, how will they cope if America doesn’t have Shmackos?

Jake and Max go through very difficult times trying to rebuild their lives. Friends aren’t easy to come by, nor for that matter is locating their lost luggage. When one thing after another goes wrong on their trip to the USA, Jake and Max wonder how will they ever be happy again. To make things worse, other dogs won’t play with them because they have a funny bark. Jake and Max both learn that sometimes life hurts and can be very lonely. Having a good attitude and being brave is the only way to get through it and come out on the other side eating ‘Shmackos’.

C is for Calgary - C is for Communication
Introducing ‘C’

'If you just communicate you can get by. But if you skillfully communicate, you can work miracles.' Jim Rohn.

C is for Calgary, Canada - C is for Communication
Jake and Max head to Calgary, Canada where they encounter their hardest and most dangerous lesson yet – Communication.

The travelling Aussie Border Collie dogs get their first taste of a chilly winter. The white stuff floating from the sky is indeed snow and it is cold, wet and FUN!

Jake and Max are thrust into an unknown, frosty winter landscape. Snow, bogs and avalanches are some of the experiences they must endure. Luckily, Jake and Max meet a smart Golden Retriever called Janey who teaches them the art of communication. Janey is a ‘tracker’ dog trained to find lost people in the snow. What starts as a fun game for Jake and Max, quickly turns into a serious game of survival. Learning to listen and observe using all senses, not just barking, becomes the most vital communication lesson of all.

Thank goodness for Shmackos and the Australian Postal System. Jake and Max bound from one challenge to the next taking each difficulty in their stride when Shmackos are just a care package away.

Sometimes life isn’t easy; you just have to have a good attitude, be a little brave and communicate effectively. It just might save your life!

D is for Drumheller, Canada - D is for Determination
Introducing 'D'

'The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination.' Tommy Lasorda.

D is for Drumheller, Canada - D is for Determination
Jake and Max head off to visit The Best Dinosaur Museum in the World in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada.

In this adventure, Catherine and the dogs are determined to uncover the mystery of why the museum’s tourists are being frightened off by the magical sandstone rock pillars, the Hoodoos. Weird lights are seen throughout the valley and ghostly noises are scaring people away. And dinosaur skeletons keep disappearing!

When the museum enlists the help of Jake and Max to help guard the precious dinosaur fossils, the travelling Aussie Border Collie dogs encounter life amongst the magical prehistoric beasts that roamed the earth more than 70 million years ago. The dogs must try to solve the mystery of why the museum is haunted, avoid ancient Hoodoo curses and do a little digging of their own. Dr. Tyrrell, paleontologist and part-owner of The Best Dinosaur Museum in the World, gives the dogs two things: Shmacko treats (especially flown in from Australia); and some good advice, “Persevere, be determined, and never let anything divert you from your true passions”.

Sometimes life isn’t easy; you just have to have a good attitude, be a little brave, communicate all possibilities, and be very determined. It just might protect your dreams!

E is for Birmingham, England - E is for Excellence
Introducing 'E'

'Whoever I am, or whatever I am doing, some kind of excellence is within my reach.' John W. Gardner

E is for Birmingham, England - E is for Excellence
When Catherine’s cousin Oliver marries Sabrina, an English dog trainer, Jake’s and Max’s world is turned upside down. She teaches the Aussie Border Collie dogs the art of excellence, both in and out of the show ring. Sabrina’s motto is, “Good, better, best: never let it rest till your good is better and your better is best.”

Amidst grueling training, a mine disaster search and rescue operation, and an injured paw, Jake and Max learn to jump the obstacles that lie in the way of achieving the most prestigious award and the greatest honour in the dog world, the official title of “Best in Show”. Being extraordinary is not easy, nor is the commitment it takes to get there.

When Jake and Max receive an invitation to participate in the world’s largest dog show, the DFS Crufts, held by The Kennel Club, they along with Catherine and Sabrina fly off to discover the wonderful thrills and excitement of England’s second-largest city, Birmingham.

The dogs bound from one lesson to the next fortified by friendship, love and Catherine’s awesome cooking. Jake and Max realize that the only way for both of them to come out on the other side eating Shmackos is to support each other’s aspirations.

Life Lesson Number Five
– being exceptional at something is not painless. It takes lots of resilence and difficult practice, especially in overcoming the many obstacles that may be faced when life throws you an ordinary ball.
